Employment: Captain/Paramedic at the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department

Chris competed in Canoe Kayak (K4 1000m) for the USA at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. He also competed and won medals at the 1991 and 1995 Pan American Games. He represented USA at 1990, 1991 and 1995 ICF World Championships. Chris has won many USA Kayaking and Surf Lifesaving National Championship titles. Chris grew up in the UK where he played Rugby and swam competitively. He also enjoyed Lifesaving competition in South Africa and Australia and worked as a seasonal Lifeguard in Wales. He was elected Captain of The Welsh Surf Lifesaving Team in 1986.

Named the 2010 and 2014 USA Canoe/Kayak Coach of the Year, Chris was the Head Coach of San Diego Canoe Kayak Team for 19 years. He is a USA Canoe/Kayak High Performance One, Two and Three certified coach and is a Certified Facilitator for the Coach Level of USA Canoe Kayak’s Coaching Education Program. Chris was named the Head Coach of the USA Junior National Team at Pan American Championships, Mexico City, in October 2010; The USA Junior Men’s Coach at Junior World Championships in Moscow, Russia in 2009; USA Junior Men’s Coach at Junior World Championships in Brandenburg, Germany in 2011, Head Coach of Team USA at Olympic Hopes Regatta in 2013; Head Coach of 2014 and 2015 Junior and U23 World Championship Teams in Hungary and Portugal.

Chris was the President of the USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint Coaches Association from 2014 until 2016 when he stepped down to accept the position of USA Canoe Kayak High Performance Director. He was the Athletes Representative on the USA Canoe/Kayak Board of Directors following his retirement from competition in 1995. He has coached athletes from Beginner all the way to Olympic Team Members. SDCKT has won National Championship Titles in the Bantam, Juvenile, Junior and Senior Age Groups.

Chris has a BSc (Honors) in Economics from London University. From 1986 to 1994 Chris worked for Sea World of San Diego as a Killer Whale Trainer. After leaving Sea World Chris has worked for San Diego City Fire-Rescue Department and is currently a Captain/Paramedic and is certified in CPR as well as Adult and Pediatric Advanced Life support. Chris also works for USA Canoe Kayak as the High Performance Director.
